In January, we at re:char brought four new folks to join us here in Bungoma. In this blog post, we introduce you to them and a team member that joined re:char in the end of 2011 but we did not introduce here earlier.
Tom Odoyo joins re:char as a top-notch engineer. Before joining re:char, he managed the MIT-sponsored “Fab(rication) Lab” in Nairobi, where he spent a lot of time with the same fancy CNC machines we use here in Bungoma. He graduated from Nairobi University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Michael Schuster joins re:char as a fellow as a designer – website, media and product. Michael studied product design in his home country of Germany. For his senior thesis, he designed vertical gardening and urban farming products.
Paul Manda joined re:char full-time in November 2011. A native of Bungoma, Paul has extensive experience as farmer and an agricultural outreach officer with re:char’s partner organization in Bungoma, ACON. Paul studied plant engineering and has worked previously for such well-known companies in Kenya as Mumias Sugar Company and H. Young Construction.
Henrik Sundgren joins re:char as a sales and business development fellow. He studied real estate and finance in his homeland of Sweden. Most recently, he worked as a sales and marketing manager for the Americas for a demolition robots company, and he also spent last summer working nearby Bungoma doing financial literacy training.
Finally, Eric Solomonson also joins re:char’s sales and business development department as a fellow. He hails from Chicago, where he studied economics at Northwestern University before working in Sears’ sustainability department. Eric also spent several months working just across the border from Bungoma in Jinja, Uganda.
